Here it is, friends, family and
fans - my ninth Amish-Country Mystery. It will be published by Plume
Books on March 31st. If the eighth novel, The Names of Our Tears,
was the story of Ruth Zook, then this ninth one continues with the story of
Fannie Helmuth. All of the questions left hanging in The Names of Our
Tears will be answered in Whiskers of The Lion. Here is a
synopsis and a recent review:
Sheriff Bruce Robertson is
charged with finding Fannie Helmuth, a young Amish woman who is hiding from a
murderous drug ring. Wrestling with a recurring childhood nightmare,
Robertson finds himself torn between allegiance to the legal system he upholds
and the beliefs of the Amish people he has sworn to protect.
From Publishers Weekly, January
2015: “In [his] absorbing ninth mystery set in Ohio’s Holmes County . . . Gaus
once again sensitively explores the awkward melding of traditional Amish
culture and modern social problems.”
I am often asked which of my
novels I like the best, and I usually answer, "The new one I am working on
now!" That usually gets a laugh. But I have to say that Whiskers
of The Lion is my favorite right now, today. Maybe not tomorrow, but
right here today I think it is my best work as a writer. I very much hope
you like it.
